The Day of the Devil

Today is the day of 06/06/06.




The number 666 is used to refer to the beast in the Bible's Book of Revelations:
"He also forced everyone, small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on his right hand or on his forehead, so that no one could buy or sell unless he had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of his name. This calls for wisdom. If anyone has insight, let him calculate the number of the beast, for it is man's number. His number is 666."

In some interpretations of Christian eschatology, the “Beast” is believed to refer to a being controlled by or equated with the Antichrist. The Antichrist (literally: anti, opposite; christ, Jesus) has come to mean a person, image of a person, or other entity that is the embodiment of evil and utterly opposed to truth, while convincingly disguised as wholly good and a bringer of truth.

Nevertheless, there are 310 couples ROM-ing today (source: my paper 我报), and Meifeng and her hubby (by now) are one of them! To the Chinese, today is a very auspicious day: 六六大顺！

Among many coincidences that occur with numbers, life itself is based partly on these three: Carbon atoms, key to life as we know it, have six protons, six neutrons, and six electrons in their most common form.

· In China, 666 is the luckiest number, indicating everything goes smoothly. The number is very popular on the number plates of vehicles.
· In the United States, 666 is a brand name of cough syrup.
· 666 is the sum of all the numbers on a typical roulette wheel. (A typical roulette wheel is numbered from 1 to 36, with one (in Europe) or two (in North America) zeroes.
· The Roman numeral representation of the number 666 (DCLXVI) uses once each the Roman numeral symbols with values under 1,000, and they occur in exact reverse order of their respective values (D = 500, C = 100, L = 50, X = 10, V = 5, I = 1).
· Similar to the Roman numeral occurrence, combining one of each of Japan's coin currency yields 666 (500, 100, 50, 10, 5, 1) .
· Apple's first computer, the Apple I, was priced at $666.66.

Anyway, despite all the satanic hype, the number 666 may have been an ancient typo. Fact: A recently translated 1,500-year-old scroll, written in Greek, indicates that the Mark of the Beast is actually 616. That would mean that June 1 -- 06/01/06 – is, or rather, was the day. And we all survived it, didn’t we? Haha!
