This _____ World

The world is such a _____ place. I don't even know what word to use to describe it. "Funny"? But it's hardly haha-funny, and it's not exactly weird-funny. Maybe "ridiculous" is the word. Some people just call it "f***ed up". Whatever.

While a certain Miss Unsatisfied is lamenting... or rather, whining... about her less-than-satisfactory job, there are many people out there who have bigger things to worry about. I'm not talking about the people in poverty-stricken countries who are without food and shelter, blah blah... I mean, those are real issues, but they're too far away. Something closer to home. Nope, it's also not about those people in this island-country who stay in cramped 1-room flats and can't afford to pay for their electricity and their kids' school fees & textbooks. Those are also real issues, but still not close enough.

While that certain Miss Unsatisfied was idling away in office thinking about what to write for her next blog post, somewhere in another corner of this island-country, a man had accidentally slipped in the toilet and got his ankle knocked against a chipped ceramic tile. He suffered a cut so deep that his vein/tendon got cut and he lost a lot of blood and had to be hospitalised and he had to undergo certain surgery to stitch up the wound and wrap his whole leg below the knee in a cast and he had to go on one month's MC. Now, this man doesn't make much money, so the "lucky" thing was that the accident happened at the workplace, so at least the medical bills would be taken care of by his employer, and he'd still be paid for the month he goes on MC. But his wound suffered from infection, and we worry about whether he'll really recover by the end of the month.

While that certain Miss Unsatisfied was still idling away in office thinking yet again about what to write for her next next blog post, somewhere in yet another corner of this island-country, a man got hospitalised for displaying weird behaviour. He was diagnosed for depression. How did he get depression? Well, this man also doesn't make much money and if not for all the OT that he does, he probably would not be able to make ends meet. So, he was probably very stressed out by monetary issues, so worried that it affected his mental and emotional health.

The world is such a _____ place. I still don't know what word to use to describe it. While the rich frets about which golf course to play next, the poor keeps getting hit by bad things when they are already struggling to make ends meet. When that certain Miss Unsatisfied heard about the plights of the two poor men, she felt so bad for them. She thought that she was already quite fortunate to have a decent job and that she really shouldn't be whining over her frivolous issues. Momentarily. She went back to whining about her less-than-satisfactory job the very next day.

The world is such a _____ place. We are all so interwined and yet so detached.
